Met Gala 2023: Best Dressed

The Met Gala is known for its stunning and often outrageous fashion choices. Held on May 1st, 2023, this year's theme was in honor of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, in preparation many celebrities and designers spent many months preparing for the event. Most of the attendees paid homage to Lagerfeld's work with their own take on his signature looks, including his use of pearls, bows, Chanel roses, tweeds, and his own signature personal style.
One of the most unexpected style moments of the night was Doja Cat, who showed up in a hooded gown by Oscar de la Renta. The gown included cat ears on the hood, silver sequins, a backless feature, and a mermaid silhouette that extended into a white feathered train. The dazzling piece took over 5,000 hours to create, including 350,000 silver and white bugle beads. Doja completed her look with a diamond headpiece and delicate diamond chain arm cuff, while her makeup was cat-themed.
Another highlight was Penélope Cruz in a couture dress from Chanel's spring-summer 1988 collection. Cruz felt emotional expressing her gratitude for spending time with Lagerfeld in the past, saying, "Karl was very special. He was very kind to me. We became very close friends." Gisele Bündchen also made a return to the red carpet in an archival Chanel dress from Lagerfeld's 2007 couture show, while Jeremy Pope and Alton Mason both wore Balmain, with Mason channeling Lagerfeld's iconic Chanel brides.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky also made an appearance, with Rihanna donning a white Valentino look complete with a floral cocoon cape, and A$AP Rocky wearing a Gucci look with a black blazer, kilt, and bedazzled jeans. The co-chairs for this year's star-studded gala included Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, and Michaela Coel, along with Anna Wintour making the night full of surprises and emotional moments.
