Isabel Marant Presents a Collection Made For Comfort, Style, and Movement
The background for Isabel Marant’s Spring 2021 menswear collection was the raw concrete architecture of the Centre National de la Danse on the outskirts of Paris. Filmed outside as models Alpha Dia and Braien Vaiksaar danced, pranced, laughed, and posed up and down earth-toned staircases and against cold stone backdrops in an energetic video showcasing the new collection.
The colorful clothes struck an interesting contrast to the starkness of the accompanying architecture, yet this being a center of dance and movement, the collection was a study in stylish, uncomplicated dressing. Pants were loose-fitting with rolled cuffs above the ankles, paired with white sneakers and rope sandals. Springtime knitwear had a gentle color palette of cream, pink and yellow. There were jumpsuits of linen and soft denim that could be worn singularly or with the top half tied around the waist. Sportswear tipped its hat to the ’80s with vibrant pink and blue track jackets and bucket hats.
Marant is never a fussy designer. She consistently delivers wearable, inviting collections that keep her customer base fiercely loyal. The conception of this compilation of clothing was done mostly in isolation in the French countryside during quarantine, away from the usual comments and opinions of her team, and Marant found freedom in that to create a collection designed to move with ease, style, and comfort.
